Mining Engineering at Michigan Tech - - - Student Activities Michigan Tech mining engineering students have a long history of participation in professional mining organizations and societies. The mining student "Hardrock Huskie" teams have won many awards in International Intercollegiate Mining Competition over the years. The contest activities include jackleg drilling, surveying, track standing, panning for gold, hand steeling, mucking, and swede sawing.
