BARD kin of Detroit, Michigan :

Paul BARD, age 35 (born Mar 1865 in Germany) and Clara GROTH BARD, age 32 (born Aug 1867 in Germany) had been married 10 years as of the 1900 census. Both immigrated to the US in 1890 and both were naturalized the same year. Paul's occupation is listed as "musician". Paul's parents are both listed as being born in Germany. They rented their home. Paul, Clara, and their two oldest children are listed as all able to read, write and speak English. Clara is listed as being the mother of 5 children, all of which were still living. Children are listed as follows:

Elizabeth -- born Jan 1891 in Illinois,

Paul BARD -- born Aug 1892 in Michigan,

Balthasar BARD -- born Mar 1895 in Michigan,

Gutta -- born Jan 1897 in Michigan,

Magda -- born Mar 1899 in Michigan,

I know very little about the other 11 children of the Kittendorf Groth family in Germany. I know that a brother of Ulrich, Hartwig (b. 1860, Kittendorf) had 7 children: Klaus, Joachim, Ursula, Elizabeth, Hanna, Hartwig, Charlotte). Klaus and Joachim Groth were businessmen in Bielefeld. I also know that Groth daughters were married to a LOHMANN (Frankfurt am Main) and a Von WEDL.

    TARNOW family of GRABOW, MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN:

My great grandmother, Emma Tarnow, was the daughter of Ludwig Theodore Justis Tarnow (b. Grabow 1/7/1791 and d. I have lineage for the Emma Tarnow ancestry for her parents, Andreas Friedrich Tarnow (b. Grabow 7/20/1760 and d. 1815, Klaber), pastor at Klaber, married to Sophie Marie Christine MOELLER (b. Basse 1762 and d. 1847), daughter of Valentin Christoph Moeller, pastor at Basse, who was married (10/30/1761) to Magdalena Gottlieb Sivert, daughter of Johann Christian Sivert and Margareta Agnet Koch, who was daughter of Johan Christopher Koch, who was married (12/1/1706) to Dorothea Lehmann, daughter of Urban Lehmann of Wismar. Andreas Friedrich was the son of Andreas Felix Tarnow, city magistrate of Guestrow, Meck-Schw. and Christine Frederika FRANCK, daughter of David Franck, pastor at Sternberg. Emma Tarnow was reported to be a cousin to Fritz REUTER.

    TARNOW family of GREVESMUHLEN, MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN:

The Tarnow ancestors are traced to theologians at the University of ROSTOCK, Paul Tarnow (b. 1562) and his nephew Johann Tarnow (b. 1586) of Grievesmuhlen, Meck-Schw. Paul authored works in Latin ("De Sacros Minsiterios" in 1624 and "De Sacros Trinate" in 1625) as professor at the University of Rostock. Johann wrote "Exercitationes Biblicae" in 1619 and "Rektoratsrede de novo evangelio" in 1624.

    GROTH family of DAMSHAGEN, MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN:

My great grandfather, Johann Ludwig was one of the children of my great-great granparents, Friedrich Emil Groth (b. Schwerin, Meck-Schw. 9/27/1774 and d. Damshagen, Meck-Schw. 6/26/1847), baptized in the "Schlosskapel" in Schwerin, reported to be a colonel in Prussian Army under General Gebhard von Bluecher, pastor at Damshagen, Meck-Schw, married to Louise Sophie Dorothea MEISTER (b. 6/8/1785 and d. 12/25/1869), daughter of brewer and grain merchant at Schwerin, Wilhelm Christopher Meister (born in Wittenberg, c.1709). Brother of my great-great grandfather was an "advokat" in Schwerin.

    GROTH family of SCHWERIN, MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN:

The parents of Friedrich Emil Groth were: Johann Gottfried Groth of Schwerin, connected to an art gallery and "kunstkammer" in Schwerin, married to Margeret Elizabeth Von ZWEIDORFF, daughter of a Schwerin goldsmith. Johann Caspar von Zweidorff (born in Brunswick, c.1750). Klaus Groth, poet, may be kin.

HAMMANN and NIESS families of WOLFSKEHLEN, HESSE-DARMSTADT:

My grandfather Ulrich of Kittendorf married Caroline Hammann (b. 1869 Nauvoo, IL and d. 1954 Palmer, IA) whose ancestry was Adam Hammann (b. 1833 Wolfskehlen, Hess- Darmstadt and d. 1919 Nauvoo, IL) a grape grower and wine maker in USA. He married Margeret Niess (b. 1837 Wolfskehlen, Hesse-Darmstadt and d. 1923 Nauvoo, IL). They emigated to USA in 1865. Kin of Adam Hammann at Wolfskehlen, sisters: Elizabeth, Dinah; brothers: Phillip, Bernard, Henry, George, Christopher, John. Kin of Margeret Niess at Wolfskehlen sisters: Elizabeth, Christine; brother: John. This information I have so far is from the Registry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg and other records. Perhaps someone has more information or has advice on how to proceed from here. I have several old family pictures of the above ancestors, including a photo of a painting of Friedrich Emil Groth of Schwerin and Damshagen and many other ancestors of the above families. I have posted this message in hopes of contacting any ancestors or gathering more information about the Groth and Tarnow ancestors of my grandfather and the Hammann and Niess ancestors of my grandmother.
